Nick and Clair have a story that sounds straight out of a romantic comedy. A mutual friend introduced them and, for a year, Clair thought Nick was “kind of an ass” …until they kissed on NYE and became inseparable!
Selfishly, I’m so glad they figured out they were the ones for each other because this wedding was wonderful to photograph. This was the first wedding that Chicago’s Ritz-Carlton has ever held outdoors, at the Deca Restaurant + Bar rooftop. It’s such a perfect spot for an intimate, outdoor wedding.
The day included lots of special elements:
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a CRAZY dog lover, and I think Nick & Clair would proudly join me on that list. They included their two beautiful dogs, Stevie and Abby, in the morning and portrait time. I don’t normally share family formals on the blog, but I am so happy with the classic family portrait of the four of them. The dogs were so good – as soon as everyone was in place, they instantly sat politely and looked at the camera!
Take note, humans.
There were also special details honoring Clair’s mother, including the most beautiful DIY ceremony backdrop. Take a peek at the handmade flower wall that frames the ceremony – it is seriously stunning, and took two years to make!
The golden light, the relaxed atmosphere, and all the style just came together perfectly. These two were such a pleasure to work with, and I think you can see their connection in the photos – especially in the heartfelt way Nick looks at Clair in their ring exchange and first dance. Just the sweetest. Congratulations, Clair & Nick!!!
