2016 was a big, busy year. In fact, there were many times when I felt like this:
(Kudos to Aliza for being part of my all time favorite hora photo!)
The year started off with a bang, thanks to some adventures with my wonderful friend and fellow photographer, Elena. We ventured to northern Canada to photograph the Aurora Borealis in a workshop by Dave Brosha and Paul Zizka. You can read more about that experience here.
I also collaborated with Elena on a dream wedding – the destination celebrations of ABC’s Gio Benitez and his husband Tommy DiDario in Florida. They were truly the sweetest couple to work with, and I can’t say how beautiful their day was. The media attention that their wedding photos received was so exciting; we were featured all over the internet in publications such as People, the Daily Mail, the Huffington Post, and more – and the wedding even made People Magazine’s list of top weddings of 2016! How fun. You can read more about that wedding here, on our site for collaborative work.
This year will also stand out for the weddings right here in the Pacific Northwest, including celebrations in the San Juan Islands, where I’m originally from. It felt like a wonderful start to a future full of PNW weddings. I can’t wait to work more in Seattle and the surrounding natural beauty.
While I still LOVE the occasional Chicago wedding – after all, that city will always have a piece of my heart – it was my last year of constant flights back and forth between Seattle and Chicago during the wedding season. I’m so happy to have finished out that chapter with some truly epic Chicago weddings and awesome couples.
Personally, I couldn’t be happier right now. It’s so satisfying to do work I love, to be close to my family, and to feel settled into the Northwest. Herman and I are looking forward to many, many happy years here. And 2017 is promising, too! Our little family has exciting changes coming. Plus, Liz Lui Photography is delving into studio work (in addition to the weddings I love, of course!).
There’s a lot to feel grateful for, and I hope you all are just as eager for the year to come. In the meantime, here’s a look back at the best of 2016:
How lucky am I to work with all these great couples?!?! This picture, taken over the summer from my soon-to-be photography studio (currently our attic under construction), sums up how I’m feeling in life:
